Seeking a new space for their growing childcare center, The Meadow’s School, a family owned business since 1978, identified a former fragrance factory for their expanded infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten and elementary school programs. JRS was tasked to renovate the space to provide classrooms to challenge and promote child development. Given that safety is a prime concern, glass doors and sidelights allow visibility into the classrooms at all times. Classrooms were to be divided by age groups and include shared toilet rooms partially screened so that they offered some privacy, yet teachers always were able to supervise. These classrooms were also equipped with food preparation areas and child sinks for hand washing. Ample storage was critical especially for infant rooms to accommodate car seats. The design also included specifying flooring that could withstand the constant moving of furniture and the test of children. With the look of carpet and offering high durability, JRS selected LVT with fun pops of color to create additional interest in the classrooms Walls were Intentionally left white, providing a perfect backdrop to exhibit artwork. With all meals prepared on premise, the design included a food preparation and kitchen area. New HVAC unites were installed to provide the proper levels of fresh air into the spaces along with the state-of-the-art television monitors and security systems to ensure safety for the occupants. The existing atrium which provided significant natural light was incorporated into the design to manage costs and allow investment in other critical areas of the facility. JRS selected new lighting in the corridors and assisted with furniture selections. Outside, a new traffic flow was introduced to accommodate safe drop off and pick up of the children as well as ensure ample parking. A new outdoor playground area was also built. With this facility, the School has newly designed spaces to support their unique programs focused on developing each child to their fullest potential.
