PROJECT: Exterior. Roof Replacement Interior. Lighting Upgrade LOCATION: South Orange, New Jersey SIZE: 63,000 Sq Ft

The Richie Regan Recreation & Athletic Center is home to Seton Hall’s Department of Athletics and Recreation. The facility boasts of free and circuit weight training options, two dance studios, cardio stations and men’s and women’s locker rooms with direct access to the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium as well as the Richard & Sheila Regan Fieldhouse. As part of Seton Hall University’s continued capital improvement program, JRS was engaged to address replacing the roof with related masonry repointing and upgrading the interior lighting with energy efficient LED fixtures. The existing roofing system was a single ply stone ballasted system. Special attention was required around the detail of the roofing over the natatorium. Due to the high level of moisture, a vapor barrier over the deck prior to the installation of the roofing system was required. Roof level masonry was repointed where failing. On the interior, new lighting was designed for the lobby, gymnasium and natatorium. All new general lighting, emergency lighting and controls were replaced. High efficiency and high output LED’s fixtures were selected for the fieldhouse. However, careful consideration was used in selecting fixtures that would stand the abuse of being hit from the inside sporting activities. The fixtures were mounted indirectly to ensure no glare would impede athletes’ performance. Fixtures installed in the Pool House had to be severe environment rated to withstand the corroding effects of chlorine while looking aesthetically pleasing. Due to the scale of this project, it was phased so to allow continued operations of this highly accessed facility during these extensive renovations.
